THE LEGEND OF PANG TJIN NIO

Pang Tjin Nio is a member of Cina Benteng community at Tangerang, Banten. She has been a singer for traditional orchestra called Gambang Kromong since her youth. She is a portrait of a hard-worker, traditional artist and member of isolated and minority group. In her eighties, she still performs on stages, collided with liquor, dancers or wayang cokek, and anxiety for the future of Gambang Kromong.

Pang Tjin Nio adalah warga Komunitas Cina Benteng di Tangerang, Banten, yang sejak remaja hingga sekarang menjadi penyanyi Gambang Kromong. Ia adalah gambaran wanita pekerja keras, seniman tradisional, serta warga kelompok minoritas dan terpinggirkan. Di usianya yang melewati 80 tahun, ia masih bernyanyi dari satu panggung ke panggung lain; di antara minuman keras, para wayang cokek, dan kegalauan akan masa depan kesenian Gambang Kromong.
